Rialto 1.5: the disc maker, free and open source, with a signed executable
The software that turns a finished Windows game into a menu, an installer, a disc icon and a disc image, now with a signed executable and no Python to install.
Rialto 1.5 is the release the July feature list promised. Everything in it is free, open source and MIT licensed, as it has always been. Rialto takes a finished Windows game and builds everything a boxed copy needs: an autorun menu, a proper installer, a disc icon, and an ISO ready to write to a disc.
Rialto.exe is signed under We The Indies, LLC through Azure Artifact Signing, so there is no longer any need to have Python installed to run it. The disc menu it puts on every disc, menu.exe, is deliberately unsigned: it is the same generic binary on every disc anybody builds, so once an author sets up their own signing account, Rialto signs that author's own copy with it, and the disc in a player's hands names the studio that made it.
New in 1.5: more than one game on a disc, with a Choose Your Game screen in the disc menu; multi-disc sets built automatically when a game does not fit; Blu-ray and files over 4 GB; USB export for players without an optical drive; Windows, Mac and Linux builds on one disc; an Add to Steam button after install; and a GOG offline installer imported straight into a ready-to-build folder.
Anyone can use it to make their own discs and pay nothing. A developer who would rather not can work with We The Indies instead. For the Indies.
