How to prepare a print or a book

An art print

One image, on your choice of paper or canvas.

1. File: PNG, JPEG or TIFF, in RGB, up to 500 MB. Not CMYK.
2. Resolution: Aim for 300 pixels per inch. The upload shows which sizes your file reaches.
3. Edges: Keep anything important 4 mm inside the edge.
4. Guide: Use the guide for your size: trim, bleed and safe zone.
5. Export: Export at full bleed size, RGB, 300 pixels per inch. Upload that one file.

A book: two finished PDFs

One interior PDF and one cover PDF. A magazine needs only the interior.

1. Plan: Choose binding, size and page count. Books take an even count from 28 to 200; magazines take 8 to 48, in fours. The cover depends on the exact count.
2. Interior: One PDF in reading order, under 150 MB. Every page must match the trim size, with or without 4 mm bleed on each side. Fonts embedded; no printer marks, crop marks or colour bars.
3. Cover: Download the template for your exact page count from the picker below. Submit one PDF page matching its sheet: back left, spine, front right. Keep type 3 mm clear of spine lines. A magazine’s cover is its first and last pages.
4. Export: PDF/X-4 or PDF 1.6 or later, RGB or CMYK. Embed fonts, remove passwords and flatten any layers that need it.
5. Cover picture: Add a PNG or JPEG of the front cover for the shop.
6. Check: Intake checks every interior page and measures the cover against Gelato’s live sheet. Files that do not fit are refused with a reason before you sign.
